FAQ : Boitiers I/O & Avid

Voici ci-dessous une liste des questions souvent posées concernant les boîtiers d’entrées / sorties compatible avec les applications de montage Avid Media Composer, NewsCutter, Symphony, dernières générations.

Avid – Open I/O

Avid Open I/O allows third-party manufacturers to develop their own plug-in for their hardware to function with Media Composer, Symphony and NewsCutter. They can now bring Avid video editing compatibility to their hardware I/O cards and devices. We’re working closely with each to get their hardware certified.

This first version of the Avid Open I/O does not contain the full feature set of the Nitris DX or Mojo DX. The certified plug-ins from hardware vendors will not be able to support the following set of features within the Avid editing application for this first release. Avid is continuing to develop the following functionality into the Open I/O.

Features not included in the first version of the Avid Open I/O:

  • Ancillary Data

  • LTC I/O (Timecode over RS-422 is supported)

  • Full Frame Stereoscopic 3D Simultaneous Capture/Digital Cut

  • Hardware Codec Encode/Decode

  • Multiple I/O Hardware Support in CPU

  • Universal Mastering

  • Thin Raster Timeline Modes

  • Video Satellite

Changes in Media Composer 6.0.3, Symphony 6.0.3, and NewsCutter 10.0.3 and above

  • The editing application will automatically release the hardware if you switch to another application. The hardware will be reacquired when you switch back to the editing application. This allows other applications to use the hardware.  An updated Open I/O plug-in is required for this added support.

  • Hardware toggle button allows the editor to switch to software-only mode. This allows you to enable and disable the hardware for use with other software, for example After Effects. This also allows you to access certain software only features such as Full Screen Play.  An updated Open I/O plug-in is required for this added support.

  • Audio Punch-in support. If your Open I/O hardware allows you to record and play simultaneously, using the Audio Punch-In tool within the editor will be supported.  An updated Open I/O plug-in is required for this added support.

Third-party manufacturers will host their own webpage for detailed information about the compatibility with their hardware I/O and Avid editing applications.  These pages will also have easy access to the supported Open I/O plug-in installers.

Where do I go for support issues?

For issues with Avid software and hardware including installation, activation, operational questions, diagnostics and troubleshooting use the Avid Knowledge Base,Avid Community, contact your reseller or Avid Customer Success.

For issues with configuring, operating, and troubleshooting 3rd party hardware, refer to the vendor’s webpages linked above for information on how to get support. The 3rd party vendors develop and maintain their own plug-in to interface with the Avid software and are responsible for ensuring compatibility.
Avid Customer Success and the 3rd Party vendors participating in this program have established case handoff procedures with each other. If you contact Avid for an issue with 3rd party hardware Avid Customer Success will ask you to take some steps to verify if the issue lies with the Avid software or the 3rd party, including potentially testing the system with the 3rd party hardware disabled. Likewise, if you contact the 3rd party vendor their support staff will take similar steps to find the source of the issue. If the case needs to be transferred to either Avid or one of our Open IO partners it will be a seamless experience with a “warm” handoff whenever possible.

If you need repair or replacement 3rd party hardware, please contact your reseller or the vendor to make arrangements. Avid does not sell or stock 3rd party Open IO hardware.
